About ICMSC

NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) and Ohio Aerospace Institute recently entered into an agreement to create the International Computational Materials Science Consortium (ICMSC). The goal of ICMSC is to promote world-class computational research and the development and implementation of simulation tools for alloy design. Sponsored by the Aerospace Propulsion and Power Program at NASA GRC, through the Higher Operating Temperature Propulsion Components (HOTPC) project. Two immediate objectives have been identified for ICMSC:

  1. Attracting computational materials experts and scientists from around the world to have direct interaction with GRC and OAI researchers to organize an ongoing workshop program in computational materials science.
  2. Concentrating research efforts on technical barriers and integration problems associated with the development of computational materials tools.

ICMSC anticipates an immediate acceleration in the development of alloy design computational tools from this program. An international conference, Applied Surface Modeling: Experiment, Theory, and Simulations, was held August 21-23, 2002. The conference will fulfill one of the main objectives of ICMSC by helping to orchestrate collaborations worldwide, linking experimentalists, theorists, and modelers at the forefront of research in surface science.
